Approximately 3.8 billion years ago, life made its grand entrance on Earth, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. This momentous occasion occurred a staggering 0.7 billion years after the formation of our planet. From that point on, life has flourished and evolved, shaping the very fabric of our world.
No doubt the life of any living being is finite but in human life, we encounter places, events and people who become unforgettable and even in old age when the memory starts playing truant such memories often arise like the monsoon clouds from the east. Some memories make our eyes moist like the first rain of the season that makes the parched earth wet and a very special earthy fragrance fills us and takes us back as if we are living those moments.
Thanks to technology I found some old pictures taken during my visit to Anand in 2008, some eight years after I left the organisation.
I would like the specially mention the thought that comes to my mind when I see the first picture on the left in the first row. It captures the entrance to the Chairman’s office, a symbolic gateway to the beginning of our journey at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1970. At that time, all the employees could comfortably fit within the confines of this building, representing the humble beginnings of our collective efforts.Who knew then that our organization would create history. India will become self-reliant and will become the largest milk producing country in the world. Whether the ruling class awards Dr. Kurien the Bharat Ratna title or not, Dr. Kurien is and will remain greater than Bharat Ratna for many of us.
I remember two small birds that would come mostly in the evenings when Dr Kurien was to leave for home and I will be giving him papers to carry home if he was traveling out of Anand the next day or just to say good bye. Dr Kurien liked those birds and would look for them. He once said that those birds are a sign of good luck. Coming from a proclaimed atheist it surprised me. But same was his view about honeycombs. Strict instructions not to remove those which we used to have on window sills of the multi-storeyed office building. Times move on, Dr Kurien is no more. I too left NDDB in 2000. I don’t know about the birds of my time. May be their progeny are still around.
जीवन का अपना “जीवन” है; 2008 में एनडीडीबी आनंद की एक पुरानी यादों भरी यात्रा
लगभग 3.8 अरब वर्ष पहले, जीवन ने पृथ्वी पर अपना भव्य प्रवेश किया, जो एक उल्लेखनीय यात्रा की शुरुआत थी। यह महत्वपूर्ण अवसर हमारे ग्रह के निर्माण के 0.7 अरब वर्ष बाद घटित हुआ। उस समय से, जीवन फला-फूला और विकसित हुआ, जिसने हमारी दुनिया के ढांचे को आकार दिया।
इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि किसी भी जीवित प्राणी का जीवन सीमित है, लेकिन मानव जीवन में, हम कुछ ऐसे स्थानों, घटनाओं और लोगों से मिलते हैं जो अविस्मरणीय बन जाते हैं और यहां तक कि बुढ़ापे में भी जब हमारी स्मृतियाँ हमसे ही तमाम तरह के खेल खेलने लगती हैं तो ऐसी यादें अक्सर पूर्व के मानसून के बादलों की तरह उभरती हैं। कुछ यादें हमारी आँखों को मौसम की पहली बारिश की तरह उभर कर जो सूखी धरती को गीला कर देती हैं और एक बहुत ही खास मिट्टी की खुशबू हममे भर देती है और हमें वापस ले जाती है जैसे कि हम उन पलों को जी रहे हों।
प्रौद्योगिकी की बदौलत मुझे एनडीडीबी को छोड़ने के लगभग आठ साल बाद, 2008 में अपनी आनंद यात्रा के दौरान ली गई कुछ पुरानी तस्वीरें मिलीं।
मैं विशेष रूप से उस तस्वीर का उल्लेख करना चाहूँगा जो पहली पंक्ति में बायीं ओर है। यह तस्वीर अध्यक्ष कार्यालय के प्रवेश द्वार को दर्शाती है। यह तस्वीर 1970 में राष्ट्रीय डेयरी विकास बोर्ड (एनडीडीबी) में हमारी प्रोफेशनल यात्रा की शुरुआत का एक प्रतीकात्मक प्रवेश द्वार है। उस समय, सभी कर्मचारी इस इमारत की सीमा के भीतर आराम से समा सकते थे।यह था हमारी छोटी सी सामूहिक प्रयासों की शुरुआत का। तब कौन जानता था कि हमारी संस्था इतिहास रचेगी। भारत आत्मनिर्भर बनेगा, विश्व का सबसे अधिक दूध उत्पादन करने वाला देश बनेगा।डाक्टर कुरियन को शासक भारत रत्न उपाधि से नवाज़ें या न नवाज़े पर डाक्टर कुरियन हमारे जैसे बहुतों के लिये भारत रत्न से भी बढ़ कर हैं और रहेंगे।
मुझे दो भूरे रंग के छोटे पक्षी याद हैं जो ज्यादातर शाम को आते थे जब डॉ कुरियन को घर के लिए निकलना होता था और अगर वह अगले दिन आनंद से बाहर यात्रा कर रहे होते तो घर ले जाने के लिए उन्हें कागजात देने या सिर्फ अलविदा कहने के लिए मैं वहाँ होता था। डॉ. कुरियन को वे पक्षी पसंद थे और वे उनकी तलाश करते थे। उन्होंने एक बार कहा था कि ये पक्षी सौभाग्य का प्रतीक हैं। एक घोषित नास्तिक की ओर से इस बात ने मुझे आश्चर्यचकित करता था। लेकिन मधु मक्खी के छत्त्तों के बारे में भी उनका यही विचार था। बहुमंजिला कार्यालय भवन की खिड़कियों पर जो मधुमक्खियों के छत्ते थे, उन्हे न हटाने के लिये डाक्टर कुरियन के सख्त निर्देश थे । समय रुकता नही , डॉ. कुरियन नहीं रहे। मैंने भी 2000 में एनडीडीबी छोड़ दिया था। मैं अपने समय के उन पक्षियों के बारे में नहीं जानता। हो सकता है उनकी संतानें अभी भी आसपास हों.
